A new boutique film studio, Narrative Truth, has opened in Cape Town. Headed by Bauke and Candice Brouwer, its motto is ‘We do Story’, expressing its passion to bring stories to life through film.
From online content to viral, documentaries and commercials, the philosophy is story first. Brandt Botes of Studio Botes developed the Narrative Truth logo.
“We started this company because of our shared passion for film,” says Bauke Brouwer. Bauke’s background as a freelance director and Candice’s is as a TV producer for the advertising industry sees the introduction of an award-winning partnership to the film industry. Bauke’s short film ‘The Fallen’ received a finalist nomination in the Filminute international short film festival and was featured in the new directors’ profile on the Shots reel, while Candice has received Loeries for her work in TV and Radio whilst in advertising.
Long-term goal
“The long-term goal was always to start a film studio and Bauke’s need to work with a fulltime producer was the next step,” says Candice. Following the positive response to the ‘Just 60 seconds’ films Bauke completed, the team discovered that most small companies are in need of bespoke films for online use.
The studio’s 60 Second films include ‘Yogi’s barber shop’, ‘The Creamery’, ‘The Kitchen’ and a series for the ‘Eat Out Awards’, which featured the top 10 winning restaurants.
