Remember yesteryear

United States: An immigration nation

This cartoon appeared in the Pittsburgh Courier newspaper in 1939 during World War II. The image was to give a reflection on which Americans had the opportunity to fight for “freedom” at home and around the world.

By 1941, the United States Army Air Forces would establish an all African American military pilot training program and military base for fighters and bombers. The program was located at Tuskegee Institute, now Tuskegee University, and the military base would be located in the near by area. Today, we know them as the Tuskegee Airmen.
