President compensation at over 400 private colleges and universities

The  data shows the compensation received in 2010 by 493 chief executives at 480 private, nonprofit colleges in the United States. Data for 2009 reflect 519 chief executives at 482 colleges. The Chronicle of Higher Education compiled compensation data from the Internal Revenue Service’s Form 990, which is filed by most major nonprofit entities.

At some colleges, more than one president serves during a calendar year.
